Seven arrested, police vehicle damaged and officer in hospital after ‘violent disorder’ on estate

Seven people have been arrested following ‘violent disorder’ on a Middlesbrough[1] estate. A police vehicle was damaged and several officers were injured as they responded to a fire on Earls Court Road in Hemlington[2]. At around 2.40am on Sunday, officers attended the scene.

One officer suffered a serious hand injury and facial injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment, a Cleveland Police[3] spokesperson confirmed. Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. Three other men and two women have also been arrested in connection with the incident.

Cleveland Fire Brigade[4] and the North East Ambulance Service service also attended the scene. “Uniformed officers are conducting reassurance patrols in the area today, and anyone who has any information about the incident is asked to speak to the officers or pass information to the Control Room by dialling 101,” a force spokesperson added.

As previously reported, emergency services attended the estate on Cass House Road, in Hemlington[5] – which is located parallel to Earls Court Road. Pictures from Sunday morning show that a car has been destroyed by the fire and is standing on it’s bonnet. A barrier has also been erected around the vehicle.

One resident said: “It’s like something from a movie!”.

Parts of the vehicle can also be seen strewn across the grass at the scene. A spokesperson from Cleveland Fire Brigade[6] told Teesside Live the crash happened at the junction on Cass House Road and confirmed the car hit a lamppost. The brigade confirmed they sent one fire engine to the incident at 11.54pm and left the scene 12.34am.
