‘Shop thieves’ lead police on chase down M180

Police chased a car carrying suspected thieves down the A15 and M180. Officers spotted the car near Barton-upon-Humber[1], following reports of a theft at a store on a retail park in Hull. The driver failed to stop when asked to do so and a pursuit began.

The car joined the M180 and travelled towards Scunthorpe. It was eventually stopped at near the Briggate Lodge Roundabout in Broughton, with assistance from a dog unit. Today, Humberside Police[2] said four people had been arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop.

A man, a woman and two teenagers remain in custody. In a statement, police said: “Four people are in our custody after officers were called to reports of a theft from a shop on Kingswood Retail Park in Hull on Sunday November 26. We received a call at around 4.30pm from a member of staff reporting that three people entered a shop and are believed to have taken items before fleeing the scene in a car.

“Officers in the area were alerted and are believed to have spotted the suspected vehicle on the A15 near to Barton. The driver of the vehicle reportedly failed to stop when requested by officers and a police pursuit ensued along the M180. “The vehicle came to a stop on the A15, near to Briggate Lodge Roundabout in Broughton, and with assistance from our dog unit, a man, a woman, and two teenagers were all arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop.
