Snowdonia horror crash update as police launch fresh appeal after four teenagers killed
Police probing the death of four teenagers[1] who died in a horror Snowdonia smash have issued a new appeal. Officers launched an investigation after the bodies of the four boys, from Shropshire[2], were found earlier this week. Jevon Hirst, 16, Harvey Owen, 17, Wilf Fitchett, 17, and Hugo Morris, 18, were in a silver Ford Fiesta, which is believed to have crashed on the A4085 near Garreg Llanfrothen, Gwynedd.
A major search and rescue operation was launched after the Shrewsbury teenagers were reported missing by their families on Sunday, November 19. Their bodies were discovered on Tuesday, November 21. The boys – who were studying for A-Levels at Shrewsbury College[3] – travelled to the area for a camping trip.
Should Birmingham follow Wales and impose a 20mph speed limit on restricted roads?[5] Now, North Wales Police has said it wants to hear from anyone with dash cam footage[6] from the area which may help its investigation. The force said: “Officers investigating the fatal road traffic collision involving four young teenagers have issued an appeal for dash cam footage.
“The collision happened on the A4085 near Garreg Llanfrothen, Gwynedd and involved a silver Ford Fiesta which was discovered on Tuesday, November 21. Sadly, the four occupants – 16-year-old Jevon Hirst, 17-year-old Harvey Owen, 17-year-old Wilf Fitchett and 18-year-old Hugo Morris were all pronounced dead at the scene.

“Police are particularly keen on obtaining dash cam footage from anybody who may have been travelling on the A4085 between Penrhyndeudraeth to Beddgelert in either direction between 11am on Sunday, November 19 and 10am on Tuesday, November 21, to contact them.” Road traffic collisions, signage and cones have been placed at the scene of the crash by the force’s highways department.
The heartbroken families of the boys are currently receiving support from specialist officers. Superintendent Simon Barrasford of North Wales Police said: “Our deepest condolences and thoughts remain with the families of the four boys. They are all being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.
“A full and detailed investigation is underway to establish the cause of the collision. Part of that investigation involves reviewing CCTV footage and we’d like to thank everyone who has already made contact with us. “Part of the investigation will also involve a full forensic vehicle examination and work is underway with our forensic collision investigation unit.
We’d like to thank the local community in Garreg for their continued patience and understanding.”
