Stanningley Road fatal crash: Man, 57, remains in custody
It happened on Stanningley Road – the main route connecting Leeds and Bradford[1]. Emergency services were called to the scene at 3.13pm on Monday to reports a vehicle had been in collision with a bus stop. A spokesperson for West Yorkshire[2] Police said: “One of the pedestrians, a man, aged 62, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“Two other pedestrians were taken to hospital with minor injuries. “The driver of the vehicle, a man aged 57, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drugs and remains in police custody at this time.” In an update today, police said: “The arrested 57-year-old man remains in custody.”
A scene remained in place throughout today while police worked at the scene. Traffic alerts are reporting the road is now open. The spokesperson added: “We’re still appealing for witnesses/information.”
Officers are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time or who may have dash cam footage of the incident, to come forward.
