He was driving a turquoise Volvo V70 between the A99 at North Road in Wick and the B870 at Watten when the horror crash occurred. The motor left the road and crashed in a field.

Mercy crews were deployed to the scene and rushed to aid the injured lad - who was the only person in the car. An air ambulance[1] had to be called and he was flown to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary[2],

Medics say he was treated for serious injuries. Cops[3] are now urging anyone with information on the crash to come forward, as they begin their probe into the accident.

Sergeant Calum MacAulay, of the Highland and Islands Road Policing Unit[4], said: "We are working to establish the full circumstances which led to this collision[5] and would urge anyone with information to get in touch. "We would be keen to speak to anyone who saw the Volvo car on the road before the incident, or anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area.
