Terence Russell named as victim of Stanningley Road crash

Terence Russell, known as Terry, 62, died after a black Mitsubishi Shogun was in collision with a bus stop on Stanningley Road, near Armley at around 3.13pm on Monday.[1] Two other pedestrians were treated for minor injuries. His close friend Joanne has paid tribute to Terry saying: “Goodnight and god bless, rest in peace Tezza.

You’re loved very much.” The driver of the Shogun, a 57-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drugs. West Yorkshire Police said earlier today he was bailed pending further enquiries.[2][3]

A spokesperson for the force has now revealed the man has been bailed pending further enquiries for the alleged offence of causing death by dangerous driving but released without charge in relation to being arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drugs. A police cordon remained in place throughout Tuesday while officers worked at the scene. The road – which is a main route connecting Armley, Leeds and Bradford – reopened at around 3.20pm on Tuesday. [4]

Officers are continuing to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time, or may have CCTV or dash cam footage of the incident or the Mitsubishi Shogun driving prior to the collision, to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101 or using the contact options on the West Yorkshire Police website.
