Tesco working ‘as quickly as possible’ to reopen Bognor store after flooding

Tesco has yet to share a reopening date for its Bognor supermarket but has apologised to customers. The supermarket and much of the surrounding area have been underwater in recent weeks after heavy rain and storms. Large parts of the UK were battered by Storm Babet and Storm Ciaran which arrived in late October and early November.

Tesco’s car park has been flooded since October 29 with the neighbouring caravan park also still underwater. Both storms brought significant rain and strong winds with drains quickly becoming blocked and overcome. Tesco has since apologised for the inconvenience caused by the closure of its Bognor Regis supermarket, though a reopening date is still unable to be confirmed.

A spokesperson for Tesco said: “We are working to reopen our Bognor Regis Superstore as quickly as possible following the recent flooding. We apologise for the inconvenience.” Pictures taken in recent days show the lasting impacts of the recent storms.

Drone pictures of the supermarket show the car park remains under several feet of water and the caravan park is also still submerged.

The surrounding area was also significantly affected with other homes and businesses affected by the floodwater. In the aftermath of the heavy rain, the A29 in Bognor[2] remained closed in both directions on Monday (October 30) after “excessive flooding” near an electricity substation. Sussex Police[3] and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service[4] were among those at the scene trying to control the flooding.

Sussex Police also released a statement on Sunday night (October 29) as a result of the excessive flooding.

The Environment Agency was also at the scene to help lower the water level and ensure the area was safe for the public.
