The three Midlands speed cameras in England’s top 10 for catching …

Three Midlands speed cameras are among the busiest in the country. All three are in the top 10 in terms of how many motorists they catch out. Between them, they clocked more than 43,000 drivers breaking the speed limit in the space of a year, serving as a warning to anyone who goes too fast at these locations.

The camera which catches most drivers in the Midlands is on the M6 between junctions 1 and 4 in Warwickshire[1]. More than 15,400 motorists were hit with speeding tickets after being caught here in the year to March 2023, new data has revealed. It made it the fifth busiest speed camera in England – catching 42 drivers every day on average.

Another camera on the M5 between junctions 4a and 6 south of Birmingham snapped 15,062 motorists, placing it seventh on the national list. Also making the top 10 list was a camera on the M6 between junctions 7 and 8 near Great Barr. It captured more than 12,700 vehicles over the 12-month period.

The most prolific camera by far in England is on the A40 in London. It snapped 49,050 motorists, more than double the next camera on the list. The details were revealed by insurance comparison site Confused.com.

They said: “We looked at speed cameras in the UK to see which ones are the best at catching people speeding. Our data revealed that cameras on the A40 in north west London have caught 50,000 speeding drivers in the last financial year alone. “As you might expect, speed cameras on motorways like the M4, M5 and M6 have also caught many motorists breaking the law.

Around 1.74 million drivers were snapped by speed cameras last year.

As a result, drivers have paid a staggering GBP45.7 million in fines.”
