Three arrested after Leicester police chase in the early hours

Three men have been arrested after a police chase through Leicester in the early hours of today. Leicestershire Police’s Road Policing Team recognised a van that was believed to have been stolen earlier this month. Officers attempted to stop the Ford Transit van in Blackbird Road at around 1.45am but it failed to do so, said police, instead leading the officers on a chase[1] through the city.

The pursuit led the police to Thurmaston, around three miles away, before coming to a stop, the force added. The people in the van then ditched it and fled on foot, said police. The chase continued as a drone team and dog unit were deployed.

Three men, aged 38, 45 and 56, were eventually arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. The 38-year-old suspect was also arrested on suspicion of failing to stop[3], dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving while disqualified and driving over the prescribed limit of controlled drugs, police said. They all remain in custody.

Police alleged the van had been stolen from an area in the east of the city on Saturday, November 11. Sergeant Sian Harris-Ley, from the East Leicester Neighbourhood Policing Area, said: “These arrests are a testament to the great work by the road policing team, drone team and dog unit. Three individuals believed to be involved in vehicle crime were safely stopped and arrested.

We hope this result reassures the local community that we do take offences of this nature very seriously and will catch those responsible.”
