Actor and comedian Tiffany Haddish was arrested Friday morning and is facing a DUI charge after she allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel, multiple outlets reported. The Beverly Hills Police Department told People[1] that Haddish was arrested after police responded to a 5:45 a.m. call about a running vehicle stopped on Beverly Drive. She is expected to be released later today, per People.
TMZ first reported the news[2] and said Haddish performed at the West Hollywood Laugh Factory on Thanksgiving. The outlet also reported that Haddish was “not involved in an accident.” Haddish, who is 43, was arrested for driving under the influence last year in Peachtree City, Georgia, per Insider’s previous reporting[3].
She was only in custody for several hours before being released. TMZ reported that she’s due in court for that case on December 4. Haddish has enjoyed success in recent years after struggling with poverty and food insecurity for some of her life.
Post-acting breakthrough, she was the first Black woman comic to host “Saturday Night Live.”[4][5][6]
Representatives for Haddish did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
