TRAVEL UPDATE – M5 near Bromsgrove and Droitwich slip road closed after fatal crash

A MAN has died following a crash involving a lorry and a van on the M5 near Bromsgrove last night.

The collision happened just before 8.25pm between Junction 4 and 4a in Catshill.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic, two BASICS emergency doctors, and the Midland Air Ambulance Critical Care Car attended the scene. The man - who was driving the van - was given advanced life support from ambulance staff at the scene but sadly nothing could be done to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene. No-

Fire crews from Bromsgrove and Redditch attended the scene to make it safe. West Mercia Police led a multi agency response to the incident. National Highways attended to assist with traffic management.

Police collision investigations and recovery operation were completed overnight. Carriageway assessments are being made due to a spillage at the scene. The northbound carriageway is shut and will remain so throughout the morning.

There are currently delays of up to 60 minutes. The M5 Junction 5 entry slip road near Wychbold is also closed due to the volume of traffic approaching from the A38. Traffic diversions are in place.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
