Truck overturns after Mass. teen drives into its path on I-95, police say

A tractor-trailer truck overturned on Interstate 95 in New Hampshire after a Massachusetts teenager allegedly drove into its path Friday afternoon, police said.

Authorities received a call about the two-vehicle crash near mile marker 14.8 of I-95 south in Portsmouth, New Hampshire around 2 p.m. Friday. The tractor-trailer had overturned and was blocking several lanes of traffic, according to a statement from New Hampshire State Police.

Troopers found a 2016 Honda Pilot disabled in the southbound lanes.

The 2012 Freightliner truck, which had an enclosed 30-foot trailer, was lying overturned and perpendicular to the roadway, blocking both the northbound and southbound lanes, the statement said.

An initial investigation revealed the Honda Pilot, which was being driven by a 16-year-old person from Amesbury, Massachusetts, allegedly entered I-95 south from the Exit 7 ramp and merged onto the highway into the path of the Freightliner.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Luis Vasquez, 46, of Haverhill, Massachusetts, then had to take evasive actions, according to the statement.

"This resulted in the Freightliner striking the center dividing guardrail causing the truck and trailer to overturn," the statement said.

Neither driver was injured in the crash, according to the statement.

A portion of the highway was closed for roughly five hours while emergency personnel worked to investigate and clear the crash scene, the statement noted.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Trooper First Class Harrison Walters at [email protected].
