Two in hospital as car and cyclist crash near Powys border
On Sunday, November 26 emergency services were called out to road traffic collision at Maesbrook, near Llanymynech. The West Midlands Air Ambulance was among the services in attendance at the scene of the crash, but both casualties were taken to hospital by road ambulance. West Mercia Police were also in attendance after the collision, which was between a car and a cyclist, and have now provided more information about the collision.
A spokesperson from the force said: “We were called to the B4398 in Maesbrook shortly after 9.25am yesterday morning following a collision between a car and a cyclist. OTHER NEWS: “Two people were taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with injuries which are not believed to be serious.
“No arrests have been made.” The ambulance service, however, said the injuries involved in the crash were in fact serious. “We were called to reports of an RTC involving a car and a cyclist on the B4398 near Maesbrook, Oswestry at around 9.30am yesterday (Sunday),” a statement read.
“Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene. “On arrival, crews treated the male driver and the male cyclist for serious injuries before both were conveyed via land ambulance on blue lights to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further treatment.” Four fire crews from Baschurch, Oswestry and Wellington were also dispatched.
Land and Air Ambulance were called out to the scene, with both casualties from the incident leaving in their care. West Midlands Ambulance service have been approached for a comment. Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service sent four crews out to the scene, from Baschurch, Oswestry and Wellington.
A Heavy Rescue Tender, designed to deliver additional and specialist Road Traffic Collison equipment to incidents, was also dispatched. An Operations officer was also in attendance at the scene. Crews used cutters and spreaders to deal with the incident, using Holmatro equipment to release one casualty from the car, the fire service said on its website.
The stop message for the incident was received by Shropshire Fire and Rescue at 10:33am.
