Two people taken to hospital after van and car crash on the A19 near Sunderland

Two people were taken to hospital after a car and a van crashed on the A19 near Sunderland[1]. Police and paramedics were called to a two-vehicle collision near the A690 junction at Herrington Interchange just after 6pm on Tuesday. The incident involved a van and a car.

The drivers of both vehicles were transported to hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries. The northbound carriageway of the road was blocked for a number of hours while the emergency services dealt with the incident and the vehicles were removed.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police[2] said: “Shortly after 6pm yesterday (Tuesday) police received a report of a two vehicle collision on the A19 northbound, near the A690 junction at Herrington Interchange involving a van and a car. “Officers and emergency services attended and the drivers of both vehicles were taken to hospital with suspected minor injuries.

“The road was blocked while emergency services were at the scene, and the vehicles were uplifted, but fully reopened a short time later. “
