Warwick railway bridge crash live as main road out of town closed
A busy road out of Warwick is closed after a lorry smashed into a railway bridge. A section of the A425 (Saltisford / Birmingham Road) is still shut after the crash happened at about 12.30pm. The road is closed in both directions between between The Antelope Inn pub and St Michael's Road while emergency services continue to deal with the incident and assist with the lorry involved.
Thankfully, the driver was not seriously injured. A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a lorry that had crashed into a bridge on Birmingham Road at 12.32pm, one ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene. On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was treated for minor injuries and discharged at the scene."
A statement released by Warwickshire Police shortly after 1pm had said: "Please be aware that a vehicle has struck a bridge on Warwick's Birmingham Road, near to the junction with St Michael's Road. Closures are in place while a structural assessment is undertaken. "Please use an alternative route for the time being." Warwickshire Police has been approached for more information.
A post on traffic information website Inrix, updated shortly after 5pm, said: "A425 Birmingham Road in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to bridge struck by vehicle between The Antelope Inn and St Michaels Road."
