Woman in 70s still in hospital after Barbourne Road crash

As we reported on Tuesday night (November 28) the crash took place at the junction of Barbourne Lane and Barbourne Road, the A38. Barbourne Road was closed in both directions for a period while emergency services were on site. A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said on Tuesday: “We were called at 3.37pm to a road traffic collision involving a van and a pedestrian at the junction of Barbourne Lane and the A38 in St Stephen, Worcester.

“She was assessed and had sustained potentially serious injuries. “She received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment.” Providing an update on Wednesday, a West Mercia Police spokesperson said a woman, in her 70s is still in hospital.

In a statement on Tuesday, the police spokesperson said: “We received a call at around 3.45pm with a report of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

“Our officers are currently at the incident on Barbourne Lane in Worcester, assisting with traffic whilst our colleagues at West Midlands Ambulance Service help the pedestrian.” In the hours after the crash, including during the evening, there were lengthy tailbacks throughout the city stretching as far back to The Hive. Buses were also being diverted, a spokesperson for First Worcester said at the time: “Due to the closure of Barbourne Road, Worcester, 144 services are diverted in both directions via Rainbow Hill and Perdiswell Island.

“All stops between Foregate Street Station and Penbury Street will not be served at this time.”
