Woman ‘raped’ in Glasgow city centre as cops lock down street for five hours

A MAN has been charged after a woman was allegedly raped in a street in Glasgow city centre. The alleged incident took place on Mitchell Street between 5.20am and 6am on Sunday morning.

After cops were alerted, the busy thoroughfare was locked down for five hours as officers investigated. It didn’t reopen until around 9.30pm last night.

The street is usually busy due to a number of bars, restaurants and businesses in the area. Afterwards cops arrested and have since charged a 32-year-old man.

He is expected to appear at Glasgow[1] Sheriff Court on Tuesday. A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland[2] spokesperson said: “A 32-year-old man has been arrested and charged following the serious sexual assault of a woman which happened between 5.20am and 6am on Sunday, November 26, 2023, in Mitchell Street, Glasgow. “A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal and he is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.”
