Woman seriously injured as police car crashes responding to 999 call
A woman is currently in hospital with serious injuries after a police car crashed on the way to an emergency. Emergency services were called to North Road near the junction of Windle Road in St Helens[1] at around 9.30pm on Sunday, November 26, to reports of a crash. The crash involved a black Volkswagen Passat and a marked police car which was responding to an emergency incident.
The driver of the Volkswagen was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not life threatening. The police officer sustained a serious injury to his arm. Police said an investigation into the crash is currently being carried out and confirmed the incident was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
Pictures of the scene showed a huge emergency services presence, including firefighters, police officers and paramedics. A cordon was also in place following the crash. Photos also appeared to show the police car’s roof cut off following the crash.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who saw the crash on North Road, or who has dashcam footage, to contact police as soon as possible.
