100mph drunk driver arrested by police on M5 near Taunton
They initially received a call from a woman on December 3, who said she was driving on the M5 near junction 25 (Taunton), and believed there was a drunk driver in front of her who was ‘all over the place’. Officers waited on the hard shoulder for the vehicle to pass, then caught up with the car which was travelling at 100mph. Two police cars performed a ‘box on’ manoeuvre to safely bring the silver VW Golf to a stop on the hard shoulder.
The driver, a 22-year-old man, failed a roadside breathalyser test, and was arrested before being taken into police custody.[embedded content] He spent the night at the station, and was eventually charged with driving over the prescribed alcohol limit in court on Thursday, December 21. He received a 20-month disqualification from driving and a GBP120 fine.
