2 Boston men indicted in connection with Dorchester shooting that injured 5 people
Two men already in custody after a shooting in Dorchester in September[1] that injured five people, including two children were indicted by the Suffolk County Grand Jury on Tuesday, Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden’s office announced.
Gianni Williams-Johnson, 24, of Dorchester, and Micah Ennis, 24, of Boston, were charged with five counts of armed assault with intent to murder, one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of firearms, Hayden’s office said in a statement.
Williams-Johnson was also charged with unlawful possession of a machine gun, the district attorney’s office added. He sits in custody at Nashua Street Jail, while Ennis remains at large.
The shooting[3] happened in the rear courtyard of 70 Ames St. in Dorchester just before 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept.
17, police said.
Five people were injured, three were adults and two were children. Four of the people had non-life-threatening injuries.
One of the children had life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.
The mother, Joanna Algarin, was grilling chicken when she “heard what sounded like fireworks,” according to the GoFundMe[5]. Both of her children, 11-year-old Johan Howard and 15-year-old Juliana Howard, were playing nearby when they were shot, the fundraiser said.
They were both hit by the gunfire. Juliana had four gunshot wounds, including one that pierced her head, the GoFundMe said.
Williams-Johnson appeared in court on Oct.
3[7] and was ordered by Dorchester Boston Municipal Court by Judge Joseph Griffin to be held on £1 million bail. He will be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court at a later date, Hayden’s office said.
In the same statement, Hayden asked for Ennis to turn himself in.
“This was a shocking, reckless barrage of bullets fired into a courtyard where people were gathered and children were playing, and it’s nothing short of a miracle that no one was killed,” Hayden said. “But a sister and brother happily playing in the courtyard were seriously wounded, causing enormous and ongoing anguish for their family and for the community. I implore Mr.
Ennis to turn himself in and face responsibility for this terrible assault on our residents and our neighborhoods.”
