3 injured after police patrol car crashes into vehicle in Southeast Michigan

INKSTER, MI - Two police officers and another person were injured Friday after a speeding Inkster Police Department patrol car crashed into a civilian vehicle.

The two officers as well as the driver of the other vehicle were all hospitalized but in stable condition, Michigan State Police officials said in a social media post Friday, Dec.

29.

The Inkster Police Department requested state police investigate the crash.

According to state police, the crash happened around 3 p.m. Friday on Beech Daly Street near Norfolk Street in Inkster.

Around that time, the Inskter police patrol car was traveling southbound on Beech Daly and over the speed limit when it struck a vehicle that was also southbound on Beech Daly but turning westbound onto Norfolk Street, state troopers said.

State police did not say how fast the patrol car was traveling. Troopers also didn't say whether the officers had their lights engaged or if they were responding to a call.

According to Google Maps, the speed limit in the area is 35 mph.

Impairment was not a factor in the crash, state police said.

The two officers in the patrol car and the driver of the other vehicle were all wearing seatbelts.

"Our reconstruction team will be conducting vehicle inspections and finishing up their investigation," Michigan State Police Lt.

Mike Shaw.

"We believe the use of seatbelts kept the injuries to all of the occupants minor and serves as a reminder to all of us, wear your seatbelt."
