46 deaths on Staffordshire’s roads in 2023 as woman dies and three in hospital
A woman has died and three people are in hospital following a serious crash on a Staffordshire road. StokeonTrentLive reported[1] how the smash had resulted in the A5 near Great Wyrley being shut for several hours. Now West Midlands Ambulance Service[2] has confirmed that sadly one woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision - while three others are today in hospital. The alarm was raised at 11.25pm last night with paramedics, police and firefighters scrambled to the scene, between Churchbridge roundabouts and the junction with the B4154.
Paramedics found two cars had been involved in a collision - with one overturned. The service says that despite the best efforts of the emergency services a woman, who was discovered in a critical condition, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. A man from the same car was taken to hospital.

The service sent three ambulances, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor, a Critical Care Paramedic and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Critical Care Car to the scene. An ambulance service spokesman said: "On arrival crews discovered two cars had been in collision, one of which had overturned. From that car, a woman was found to be in a critical condition and already receiving basic life support from fire service colleagues.
"Ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone's best efforts, it became apparent nothing could be done to save her and she was confirmed dead at the scene. A man, from the same car, was treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to Walsall Manor Hospital. "From the second car, a man was treated for serious injuries, not believed to be life-threatening, and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
A doctor travelled with the patient to help continue treatment en-route to hospital. A second man from the second car was taken to New Cross Hospital after being treated for injuries not believed to be serious." The road reopened at around 9.15am.
