A17 Washway Road: Two people in hospital after ‘serious’ crash involving lorry and cars
Two people have been taken to hospital following a ‘serious’ crash on a busy Lincolnshire road[1]. A collision on the A17[2] Washway Road, between Holbeach and Fleet Hargate near Spalding[3], was reported on the morning of Friday, December 29. Two cars and a lorry were involved in the crash, with the road still currently closed in both directions.
A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said at around 11.20am: “Two cars and a lorry were involved in this collision, and two people have been injured and taken to hospital for treatment.” They added that the road was expected to remain closed ‘for some time yet’. Drivers have been told to avoid the area by police. You can follow live traffic and travel updates here.[4]
Poll: What’s the best sandwich shop in Lincolnshire?[5] Traffic monitoring services Inrix and Google Maps reported slow-moving traffic in the area. The nearby village and town became congested as motorists looked for alternate routes, which led to long queues along the B1515 Fleet Road and through Holbeach.
Police confirmed the closure at 9.30am. A spokesperson said on X, formerly Twitter: “Both sides of Washway Road in Holbeach, just off the A17, are currently closed following a serious three vehicle collision this morning. “The road is expected to be closed for some time.
Please avoid the area if you can.”
Traffic on the A17, on either side of the closure, was otherwise largely unaffected.
