A27: Man arrested after crash involving motorbike and bus

The incident happened on Thursday night at around 9.40pm on the westbound side near Hollingbury. The rider, a 23-year-old man from Burgess Hill, was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, and was taken to hospital for checks as a precaution. He has been bailed, pending further enquiries, Sussex Police said.

One eyewitness riding home on the bus described hearing a “bang and scraping sound”. She said: “We were all celebrating Brighton’s win up until the bang, as we had left a few minutes before the final whistle to avoid standing in a bus queue for an hour. “His bike was in pieces in the centre lane.

“I would like to commend the driver of our bus, who remained calm and professional throughout.”

Sussex Police have increased patrols and checks as part of Operation Limit over December, the force’s winter campaign to tackle drink and drug-driving.
