A34 closed overnight for operation as lorry came off road

The A34 southbound was closed between Peartree and Hinksey to allow for a recovery operation to take place following a crash in which a lorry left the carriageway. National Highways reported the crash at around 9.30pm on Thursday night and described it as a “complex recovery operation”. The southbound carriageway was fully opened shortly before 8am on Friday morning.

National Highways thanked motorists for their patience in a public post after the road was reopened. The road was fully cleared with traffic moving freely by 9am. But there was another crash on Friday morning at the Blewbury Hull junction where Blewbury meets Aston Tirrold near Didcot[1].

The AA said just after 8am that traffic was queuing both ways between Westfield Road and Spring Lane. It comes after traffic[2] delays caused by a crash on the A34 northbound approach to the M40 junction for Bicester[3] on Thursday. One lane was blocked from around 2pm.

The AA said shortly after 2pm that the traffic was “heavier than normal” on both the A34 near Botley Interchange and near Wendlebury, where the crash occurred. All lanes were reopened at around 3.15pm on the A34 northbound near junction nine following the crash. The A34 also had heavy delays earlier in the day.
