A38 Derby accident live updates as road closed between Markeaton and Palm Court islands
People travelling home during the rush hour on Tuesday night were urged to avoid the A38 northbound in Derby following an accident – which closed part of the road for two hours. Travel information services initially reported that the road was closed northbound from Markeaton Island through to the turn-off for Kedleston Road, along Queensway, but it was later extended to Palm Court Island. There were long delays in the area, with the congestion stretching back at one point to the Mickleover turn-off for northbound traffic, while southbound traffic was queuing back beyond Palm Court Island towards Little Eaton.
The incident happened around 4.45pm and the road was closed at 5.30pm, while emergency services attended the scene. It is not known how many vehicles were involved or if there were any injuries. The road was reopened by 7.40pm.
