A42 live updates as major road closed in both directions after crash near East Midlands Airport
Traffic has been stopped in both directions near East Midlands Airport due to a serious collision. An air ambulance has also been called to the incident on the A42 in Leicestershire, which was reported at around 11.32am on Monday, December 18. The road is closed in both directions between junction 23a of the M1 and the J14 in Tonge, Leicestershire.
Leicestershire Police are at the scene. National Highways said in a post on X (formerly Twitter): "Traffic has been STOPPED in both directions on the #A42 between J14 (#Tonge) and the #M1 J23A (@EMA_Airport) due to a serious collision. Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance are attending the scene.
We will keep you updated." Traffic monitoring site Inrix states: "A42 in both directions blocked, long delays due to accident, a lorry involved from J14 A453 (Castle Donington, Tonge) to M1 J23A (Derby / East Midlands Airport / Tamworth, Diseworth). "Air ambulance in attendance."
