A45 crash live near Birmingham Airport as key routes affected and buses diverted

A crash closed the A45 Coventry Road near Birmingham Airport[1] this afternoon causing major disruption across Solihull[2] and into Birmingham. Buses were diverted and there are still delays with queueing traffic in Sheldon and on roads approaching Birmingham. An update from live traffic system Inrix stated: “A45 Coventry Road in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to accident between B425 Hobs Moat Road (Sheldon) and the airport (Elmdon).

“Diversion – NXbus X1 re-routed.” It is not known how serious the incident is at this time, but BirminghamLive has asked West Midlands Police for an update and if there are any injuries. The crash itself looks to have taken place very close to BHX, on the A45 just past the Holiday Inn at Birmingham Airport. Live systems show heavy delays building in and around Solihull, on Old Lode Lane, Hobs Moat Road and near the NEC.

National Express West Midlands that the X1 bus, which goes between Birmingham and Coventry had been re-routed, but the normal route has been restored. We have approached West Midlands Police[4] for a comment on this incident, and will bring that to you as soon as we get it. This is a developing news story.
