A66 fatal crash: teen arrested and woman killed

The crash also resulted in a 17 year old being taken to the Cumberland Infirmary, with a 73 year old man and 11 year old girl taken to the RVI in Newcastle. Police are investigating the fatal two vehicle collision that occurred on the A66 between Bridgefoot and Broughton yesterday evening, December 23 at around 6:45pm. The collision involved a Volkswagen Golf and a Suzuki Jimny.

The driver of the Suzuki a 73-year-old man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary with serious injuries. A passenger in the vehicle a woman in her 70s died from her injuries. The driver of the Volkswagen a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and three counts of causing serious injury by driving.

He has been released on police bail. Two passengers, a female aged 17 suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary. A 11-year-old girl was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary with a head injury.
