Alburnett man killed in crash near Anamosa
An Alburnett man was killed Friday after his car was struck by a pickup truck near Anamosa, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
At about 6:48 a.m., 81-year-old Richard Schmidt of Alburnett was driving a Chevy Malibu and had stopped at the intersection of Shaw Road and northbound Highway 151, south of Anamosa.
The accident report said he then entered northbound Highway 151 and was struck by a Ford F250 pickup truck driven by 77-year-old Karen Aicher of Mount Pleasant, who also was traveling north.
Anamosa Ambulance transported both Schmidt and his injured passenger, 66-year-old Cindy Petersen of Alburnett, to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Schmidt died from his injuries.
Aicher was taken by Monticello Ambulance to Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa for her injuries.
The Jones County Sheriff's Office, Anamosa Police and Fire, and Mount Vernon Ambulance also assisted the Iowa State Patrol at the scene.
