Appeal following fatal crash in Blantyre

Officers are appealing for information following a fatal crash in Blantyre. Around 5.55pm on Tuesday, 19 December, 2023, we were called to a report of a crash involving a white Isuzu Grafter Flatbed and a pedestrian on Glasgow Road. Emergency services attended and the 84-year-old male pedestrian was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he died on Wednesday, 20 December, 2023.

The 53-year-old male driver was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and released pending further enquiries. The road was closed for around five hours to allow investigations to take place and reopened around 11.05pm. Sergeant Gemma Blackadder said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.

“Our enquiries into this collision are ongoing, and I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the crash to please contact us. “I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area and who may have dash-cam footage which could assist us to get in touch.” Anyone with any information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting reference number 2896 of 19 December.
