Area briefs: pedestrian killed in Athens accident, candidate qualifying ends in Alto

Athens-Clarke County Police will investigate a deadly vehicle vs pedestrian accident that happened last night on Atlanta Highway in Athens: a 44 year-old woman whose name has not yet been released was struck and killed.

School’s out in Athens: Clarke County School District students are among the last in the region to begin their holiday breaks.

They’ll be back in classrooms on January 8.

A scholarship at the University of Georgia will be funded by a gift from the Ivester Foundation in Gainesville: the scholarship will be named in honor of Hall County poultry industry executive Abit Massey.
