Armed carjacking ring targeting south King County drivers, court docs say
Court documents allege a ring of carjacking suspects have targeted drivers across south King County for months. One of the suspects, Jonathan Montejano, is also charged with murder for the fatal shooting of a driver in Federal Way in October[1]. According to charging documents, detectives from the King County Sheriff’s Office interviewed a member of the carjacking crew in early October and were told the group was focusing on south King County.
The member of the group, who was not named in court filings, allegedly told police that he and his accomplices had carjacked “15 to 20” drivers since August, including cases in which shots were fired. RELATED: Woman carjacked at gunpoint after suspected staged rear-end crash in Seattle[2] On Sept.
28, police allege Montejano was part of a carjacking crew that crashed into a man’s car and then pulled him and a woman out a gunpoint on Military Road South and 264th Street in Kent. During the carjacking, Kent police said someone in the crew fired a gun repeatedly at the victims as they ran away. In October, police in Renton put out a warning[3] about armed carjackings after several victims reported being pulled from their cars at gunpoint.
KOMO News has reached out to Kent police, Federal Way police and the King County Sheriff’s Office for additional information about the alleged carjacking ring.
