Arrest after body found in search for Swadlincote man last seen leaving nightclub

An arrest has been made following the discovery of a body believed to be that of missing man Thomas Hunter from Newhall, Swadlincote. Just after 8.30am on Monday, December 11, the body of a man was found in some hedges on Burton Road in Ashby-de-la-Zouch. East Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the scene, who confirmed the man was deceased[1].

It’s believed the man was walking along Burton Road towards Boundary, Derbyshire, sometime between 2.30am and 3.30am on Sunday (December 10) when he was involved in a collision with a vehicle, which failed to stop at the scene. Last night a 26-year-old man was arrested by Leicestershire police on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving[2]. He remains in police custody.

Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision are continuing. A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: “Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have been driving along Burton Road during the early hours of Sunday morning and may have witnessed the incident. Also, if anyone has dashcam equipment installed on their vehicles we would ask that they check the footage and get in touch if they captured anything that may assist with enquiries.”
