Barrow police arrest two men after clamp down on illegal E-Scooter use
Police said a 22-year-old man was arrested riding an E-scooter while under the influence of drugs on December 14. Another man, aged 31, was arrested on December 21 after driving an E-scooter with no insurance, police said. The clamp down comes after an E-scooter rider in his sixties was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a serious road crash in Barrow town centre earlier this month.
A man in his thirties driving a Nissan Micra was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by driving without due care and driving otherwise than in accordance with his licence. Rawlinson Street and Crellin Street were closed after the incident as investigations were carried out. Cumbria Police say they recognise the popularity of E-scooters and the positive impact they can have on the environment versus other modes of transport.
However they reminded the public that they are illegal to be ridden on the road or public spaces within Cumbria.
If you’re caught riding on the public highway you may be stopped, the scooter may be seized and you may face prosecution.
