Best EA FC 24 controller settings: how to improve your game on Xbox, PS4 and PS5

If you want to improve at EA FC 24, making a few changes to your EA FC 24 controller settings could prove extremely helpful. The great thing about EA FC 24[1] is the endless customisation options available in the settings, meaning players can change anything from camera settings to controller settings to suit them best. EA FC 24 seems to have the most customisation options yet, and even though personal preference plays a big role, some settings changes should help you improve.

A host of new gameplay features[2] have been added to EA FC 24 by EA Sports[3], but not every player finds them useful, and some of the new additions can be turned off in the EA FC 24 controller settings. I’ve played EA FC 24 daily since its release, are here’s what I think are the best EA FC 24 controller settings for Xbox One[4], Xbox Series X[5]|S, PS4[6] and PS5[7].

Best EA FC 24 controller settings

Here are the best EA FC 24 controller settings that we recommend to help improve not only the way you play, but the overall enjoyment of the game on Xbox[10] and PlayStation[11]. From turning off the power shot zoom in camera settings to turning timed finishing on, there’s a host of changes we think you need to make, to sure you’re running the best EA FC 24 controller settings.

Using these settings are not guaranteed to improve your game, and if you use these settings, you may find that not every change works well for you. At the end of the day, it comes down to personal preference, so one or two settings may need tweaking to be more suited to how you play. Here are the best EA FC 24 controller settings:

Presets

  • Gameplay Preset – competitive
  • Trainer – hide

Unless you are struggling to understand how to play EA FC 24, then you should turn the trainer off.

We also recommend turning the gameplay present to competitive, as this is the preset used in online Ultimate Team competitions, so it will help you get more used to the default settings in the biggest game modes.

Shooting

  • Shot Assistance – assisted
  • Timed Finishing – on

Timed finishing can be a great way to improve your chances of scoring in you get it right, so make sure it’s turned on in settings. It may take a bit of practice to get right, but timed shooting – with finesse shots[12] especially – can be quite overpowered.

Passing

  • Through Pass Assistance – semi
  • Lobbed Through Pass – semi
  • Ground Pass Assistance – assisted
  • Cross Assistance – assisted
  • Lob Pass Assistance – assisted
  • Pass Receiver Lock – late
  • Precision Pass Sensitivity – normal

We recommended keeping all the passing settings the same, with the default settings yet to cause any issues for us in-game.

Defending

  • Clearance Assistance – directional
  • Defending – tactical defending
  • Pass Block Assistance – on

There are two types of defending in EA FC 24, Tactical Defending and Advanced Defending. Tactical Defending will contextually choose between a standing tackle and a more physical tackle, while Advanced Defending gives you the freedom to choose your tackle type.

This is the one setting where personal preference could play a big part, but after using the two, we find tackles are more successful when using Tactical Defending.

Switching

  • Auto Switching – on air balls and loose balls
  • Auto Switching Move Assistance – none
  • Right Stick Switching – classic
  • Right Stick Switching Reference – player relative
  • Right Stick Switching Sensitivity – 4
  • Next Player Switching – classic
  • Player Lock – on
  • Icon Switching – off

To avoid any confusion, we recommend turning Icon switching off as it can be hard to understand at times, especially when you don’t have long to make a decision in-game. One setting we do recommend changing is Player Lock though, because if used correctly, it gives you more control and freedom when making runs forward in attack.

Dribbling

  • Orbit Dribbling – off

Orbit Dribbling is new to EA FC 24, but after playing the game with and without it, we preferred it without. Orbit dribbling can make R1 dribbling feel clunkier and give the player less control of the ball, so we opted against having it on.

Goalkeeper

  • Save Assistance – semi

We have left the goalkeeper Save Assistance to semi.

Controller preferences

  • Analog Sprint – off

Analog Sprint allows players to control a player’s sprint speed based on how far down you press the sprint button.

This can over-complicate sprinting, so we’ve turned it off.

Camera settings

  • Power shot zoom – off

When performing a power shot[13], the default settings will see the camera dramatically zoom in on the player taking the shot.

Not many like this zoom, so we opt to turn the power shot zoom off in the camera settings.
