Birches Head bin men attackers back in court and still waiting to learn fate

Three men involved in a violent attack on Stoke-on-Trent City Council[1] bin men will learn their fate next year. Staffordshire Police[2] were called out to Birches Head[3] twice on March 21 to reports that a bin lorry on Fairhaven Grove had been damaged and another smashed up on Birches Head Road. In total, four refuse workers were hurt. The attackers had been due to be sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court[4] today.

But the hearing was adjourned because a further report is needed by the judge. Now the three defendants will learn their fate on February 29. Their bail was extended.

The defendants are:

Kyle Worthington, aged 20, of Abbey Road, Abbey Hulton[5], who has admitted conspiring to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Jack Spackman, aged 24, of Beverley Drive, Bentilee[6], who has admitted two charges of conspiring to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, and criminal damage. Joe Corden, aged 28, of Tellwright Street, Burslem[7], who has admitted charges of wounding with intent, two offences of assault, two charges of criminal damage, driving a motor vehicle otherwise in accordance with a licence, and driving without insurance. A fourth defendant – 18-year-old Kyle Hilditch, of Holbeach Avenue, Bucknall[8] – has already been sentenced.

He has admitted two charges of wounding with intent, two counts of conspiring to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, and criminal damage.
