Blackpool named second most dangerous place to drive outside London

New research has revealed the top 10 most dangerous areas for drivers in the UK outside of London. In first place for the highest accident rate is Powys, with 11.83 accidents per 5,000 people. Following closely behind in second place is Blackpool, with 11.63 accidents per 5,000 residents.

Earlier this year, Blackpool was also named among areas with the worst drivers in the UK.[1] In third place is Surrey, which saw 2,783 total accidents and has an accident rate of 11.54 per 5,000 people. To put these figures in perspective the overall average accident rate for all local authorities outside of London in the UK was 6.43 per 5,000 people.

Electronic car part remanufacturer, ACTRONICS LTD, analysed data released by the Department for Transport to reveal which UK area outside of London had the highest rate of car accidents. Lancashire Telegraph: Ranking fourth is Brighton & Hove, which had 636 total accidents for an accident rate of 11.51 per 5,000 individuals. Fifth place goes to East Sussex excluding Brighton & Hove, with 1,216 accidents and a rate of 11.12 accidents per 5,000 people.

Kent excluding Medway Towns takes sixth place with 3,457 accidents and a rate of 10.95 per 5,000 residents. In seventh place is Portsmouth, which had 449 total accidents for a 10.86 accident rate per 5,000 people. Ranking eighth is Nottingham with 679 accidents and a rate of 10.62 accidents per 5,000 individuals.

Birmingham comes in ninth place with 2,383 total accidents and an accident rate of 10.43 per 5,000 people. And rounding out the top ten local authorities for accident rate is Lincolnshire, with 1,604 accidents and a rate of 10.42 accidents per 5,000 residents.
