Boots issues statement after car crashes into Edge Lane store
Boots has released a statement after a car crashed into the store. Emergency services were called to Boots on Edge Lane just after 2pm on Thursday, December 7, following reports of a black Volkswagen Tiguan smashing into the front entrance.[1] Officers said the car had already crashed into three parked vehicles outside before entering the premises while people did their Christmas shopping. A spokesperson from Boots said: "Our Liverpool Edge Lane Retail Park is now closed following this incident and we will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.
Our priority is on supporting the emergency services, team members and our customers however we can." No injuries were reported to the police and a cordon was put in place around the store as emergency services[4] attended the scene. Officers have now confirmed that the driver passed all roadside medical tests and they do not believe the crash was caused by a medical incident. There have been no arrests and police revealed that the driver is cooperating with their investigation into the incident. Footage shared widely on social media shows a huge queue of people[5] waiting to pay inside the store as a black car crashes into a number of parked vehicles outside. After initially jumping out of the way of the car, Boot shoppers then headed towards the vehicle to help the driver. Merseyside Police is now asking for witnesses and anybody with CCTV or dashcam footage to contact @MerPolCC online using log 465 of Thursday, December 7.References
