BREAKING: Man hit by bus in Manchester city centre as he’s rushed to hospital with ‘serious’ injuries

A 54-year-old man has been rushed to hospital with ‘serious head injuries’ after being hit by a bus in Manchester city centre[1] on Saturday night. Police raced to Portland Street, outside the Genting Casino, at around 11:30pm on Saturday night (December 9) to reports of a pedestrian in a collision with a bus. Pictures from the scene show a large emergency services presence as the busy road was cordoned off.

Officers say a second collision, also between a bus and a pedestrian, happened in a similar location at around 1am. The man in his 40s sustained ‘serious leg injuries’, according to the force. They are now appealing for information on both incidents.

The bus driver remained at the first scene on Portland Street and no arrests have been made. Eyewitnesses told the Manchester Evening News they saw a man lying in the road while an off-duty paramedic gave CPR. One said they heard a ‘thud’ before running to the scene to see if they could help. “It didn’t look good,” they added.

Pictures from the scene show significant cracks in the windscreen of the bus.
