Bridge between Huntingdon and Godmanchester remains closed after crash saw person cut free from car
A crash between two cars during Thursday afternoon (December 7) caused a man to be taken to hospital after being cut from his car. The incident on The Avenue, Godmanchester, has also left the bridge closed[1]. A Cambridgeshire Police[2] spokesperson said: “We were called at 3.42pm to The Avenue, Godmanchester[3] with reports of a collision between two cars which left the nearby bridge completely blocked.
Officers attended together with paramedics and firefighters and one person had to be cut free from their car. “One person was taken to hospital but there were not believed to be any serious injuries.”
The bridge on The Avenue between Huntingdon[6] and Godmanchester was shut from 4pm on Thursday and remained closed at 8.30am on Friday.
A Cambridgeshire[7] Police spokesperson said it would be shut ‘until further notice’.
A Cambridgeshire County Council spokesperson said: “[8] B1044 The Avenue, Godmanchester/Huntingdon Town Bridge, is closed between Riverside Road, Huntingdon, and the junction with Bridge Place, Godmanchester, following a road traffic collision yesterday evening to assess for structural damage to the Old Bridge.
