Calls to limit HGVs on flood-hit North Staffordshire road where car got stuck

Work is set to take place on a flood-hit North Staffordshire road. Staffordshire County Council[1] highways teams are to visit Hill Top, in Brown Edge[2], following the latest floods. The latest issue is being blamed on HGVs using the road, grids becoming full of debris, and rainwater settling in the middle of the road. Staffordshire Police have even had to close the road after a car became stuck in floodwater earlier this month.

The road connects Brown Edge to Biddulph and Knypersley. Mary Flowers, who lives on Hill Top, said: “I don’t know if much can be done about it. As you go along the road it goes down and round and it has always flooded there, it’s terrible.” Councillor Joe Porter said: “Myself and Brown Edge Parish Council have been reporting the issue for sometime.

My colleague, Anthony Bedson, deserves a lot of credit because he’s been constantly reporting to highways but unfortunately it hasn’t been dealt with yet.” The latest flooding issues come as signs are wanted to try to limit the number of HGVs on the road. District and county councillor Keith Flunder said: “We are trying to reduce the number of trucks and large vehicles that use that road.

Hopefully that will help with less erosion and less sediment.”

Staffordshire County Council is aware of the case.
