Car bursts into flames after crashing into barrier on East Lancs Road

A car burst into flames after smashing into a metal barrier on East Lancashire Road. Emergency services were first called to the busy road, at the junction of Lower House Lane in Fazakerley[1], just before 8pm on Wednesday, December 13, following reports of a crash between two vehicles. Once Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and the North West Ambulance Service arrived at the scene, the Lower House Lane turn off was closed due to one vehicle being on fire after crashing into a metal barrier.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed all people inside both cars were out of their vehicles when they arrived at the scene. One firefighter used a hose to put out the flames.

One of the people in the crashed car was taken to hospital by the North West Ambulance Service.

He's described as having minor injuries. Merseyside Police confirmed no arrests have been made at this time. A spokesperson from Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service said: "Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended an incident on East Lancashire Road, Liverpool this evening following reports of a road traffic collision (RTC).

Crews were alerted at 7.50pm and two fire engines were on scene at 7.54pm. "Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) were also in attendance. On arrival, crews found two vehicles involved in an RTC.

"Both vehicles were on all four wheels, but one was well alight. All occupants of both vehicles were out prior to crews' arrival. One firefighter wearing breathing apparatus began fighting the fire under general observation using a hose reel jet.

"The fire was soon extinguished, and crews remained on scene to monitor the temperature. One driver was transported to hospital by NWAS. "Crews handed the scene over to Merseyside Police and left at 8.31pm."
