Car driver dies and passenger critical after A64 York crash

A car driver has died and another person has been left critically injured in a road crash on the A64 near York. The collision, which involved a blue Mazda 2 car and a blue DAF horsebox, happened at 15:05 GMT on Tuesday[1]. North Yorkshire Police said the Mazda driver died at the scene, while the front seat passenger was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The horse box driver, a woman in her 50s from the Leeds area, suffered minor injuries, a police spokesperson said. Two horses in the vehicle were treated by a vet for minor injuries, they added. North Yorkshire Police have appealed for anyone with information about the collision, which took place at the junction with Towthorpe Moor Lane and Common Lane, to come forward.
