Car flips over in town centre and closes road

A busy road at the heart of Newport county town had to be closed for a few hours after a car flipped over. At around 10.47am on Boxing Day, Gwent Police[1] confirmed that were at the scene and dealing with a road traffic collision on Goldcroft Common in Caerleon. The police force advised motorists to avoid the area and to find an alternative route for their journey.

Traffic monitoring service, Inrix, noted that traffic was coping well in the area. For the latest Newport news, sign up to our newsletter here[2]. On X, formerly known as Twitter[3], Gwent Police also issued a traffic update on the incident.

In their statement, they said: “Officers have now reopened the road at Goldcroft Common / Mill Lane in Caerleon Newport[4] following a road traffic collision earlier today. Thank you for your patience. Stay safe.”
