Car smashes into chippy as police seal off West Derby shops

Emergency services are responding after a car smashed into a chip shop. Merseyside Police[1] were called to Deysbrook Lane, in West Derby[2], at around 7.30pm on Friday, December 15, following reports of a car crash. Once officers arrived at the scene they found a car had crashed into the Panda chip shop.

Police confirmed an elderly man was driving the car at the time of the incident and he was able to free himself from his vehicle. No injuries were reported to Merseyside Police at this time.

The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Emergency services were initially concerned about the potential for a gas leak at the business but Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service was able to cut off the supply. The North West Ambulance Service and Cadent, the gas emergency service, are currently at the scene. A spokesperson from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: “We are in attendance at an incident at Deysbrook Lane, Liverpool, following reports of a road traffic collision (RTC).

Crews were alerted at 7.36pm and two fire engines were on scene at 7.44pm. “Crews arrived to find a car had collided with a building, the driver was out of the vehicle prior to crews’ arrival. The surrounding unit was evacuated and the gas supply was cut off.

“Merseyside Police are in attendance managing a traffic cordon and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and Cadent are also on scene. One fire engine remains in attendance to make the scene safe.” A police cordon is now in place surrounding a number of shops on Deysbrook Lane.

The Papa Johns and Ladbrooks both have their shutters down and appear to be closed.
