CCTV appeal after Hessle war veteran’s medals stolen
Police have released a CCTV image of a suspect linked to the theft of a veteran’s medals, shortly after his death. The medals were taken from the home in Hessle of Michael Burrows, 68, a former medic with the Parachute Regiment, who died just weeks ago. Humberside Police said the theft was discovered on 26 November.
Two men arrested on suspicion of burglary had since been released without charge, the force added. The medals were taken along with other memorabilia, such as pocket watches and several Zippo lighters – including one inscribed to “Dad” and one featuring Jimi Hendrix. Mr Burrows’ daughter said the items were stolen from a bar her father had built in an outbuilding at his home.
Anyone with information about the person in the CCTV image or the whereabouts of the stolen items is asked to contact police via the 101 non-emergency line. Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers, a police spokesperson added. Follow BBC East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram.
