City centre crash causes rush hour chaos as busy Edinburgh road closed
A busy city centre road in Edinburgh was closed due to a collision on Friday evening with a woman being rushed to hospital. York Place in the capital was forced to close after a collision which reportedly took place at around 5pm today, December 15. Edinburgh Travel News took to X, formally known as Twitter, to alert drivers of the closure.
A woman was struck by a vehicle on Queen Street and was taken to hospital for treatment. Buses were also forced to divert their routes. It is currently unknown how many vehicles were involved and whether there have been any injuries.
The collision reportedly took place outside of the Portrait Gallery. Writing on X, Edinburgh Travel News wrote: “York Place is closed westbound after North St Andrew Street due to an RTC outside the Portrait Gallery. ” Allow for delays on surrounding / alternative routes – York Place itself, Picardy area, Leith Street and all sides of St Andrew Square.”
Lothian Buses also released a statement to alert passengers of diversions. They wrote on their website: “Due to a road closure, buses are unable to serve York Place, North St David Street and South David Street and are instead diverted via Leith Street westbound until further notice.” A Police Scotland spokesperson said: ” “Around 5.25pm on Friday, December 15, police were called to a report of a woman struck by a vehicle on Queen Street, Edinburgh.
“The woman is being taken to hospital.”
