Cowra crash: Tragic details emerge after minibus collision killed one and injured five

A man who was killed in a minibus crash that injured five others was being transported back home after a day out at a nearby bowls club.

The Toyota HiAce Minibus collided with a Kia Sorrento on Fitzroy Avenue at Cowra, in NSW[2]‘s central west, at 10.40pm on Saturday.

The minibus overturn and rolled on its side killing an 84-year-old man and injuring five others.

NSW Police revealed on Sunday the 32-year-old driver of the Kia was arrested and charged.

The group caught up in the crash had been on their way home from Cowra Bowling and Recreation Club and were being transported back by a courtesy bus.

Four passengers in the minibus – two men aged 41 and 78 and two women aged 55 and 60, along with the 61-year-old driver female sustained injuries.

Three were taken to Cowra Hospital, whilst another was another was airlifted to Orange Base Hospital for further treatment.

The Kia driver was transported to Cowra Hospital with minor injuries.

He underwent mandatory testing and released, pending further investigation.

The Crash Investigation Unit examined the scene and the 32-year-old was charged Sunday at Cowra Police station.

He was hit with a raft of charges including dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, cause bodily harm by misconduct.

In charge of motor vehicle, negligent driving (occasioning death) and two counts of knowingly make false/misleading statement were also among the charges.

The Kia driver was refused bail and will face Orange Local Court on Monday.
