Crash on A465 Heads of the Valleys Road closes busy road for hours

Crash investigation work has been carried out after a busy stretch of road in south Wales was closed all day on Saturday following a collision which caused a heavy emergency services presence. Pictures shared with WalesOnline of the incident at the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road in Rassau, Blaenau Gwent[1], showed multiple ambulances and police at the crash which happened on the eastbound carriageway towards Ebbw Vale[2] at around 9.30am. Witnesses said South Wales Fire and Rescue Service also attended the incident.

It caused traffic to pile up on the road and the whole stretch from the A4048 at Tredegar[3] roundabout to the A4281 was closed from before 10am until after 6pm on Saturday evening.

The condition of those involved in the collision is currently not known. Gwent Police[4] said this morning: “Emergency services are dealing with a road traffic collision on the A465 Eastbound, towards Ebbw Vale. The road is currently closed at the roundabout for Tredegar. Please avoid the area and find alternative routes for your journey.”

It then said shortly before 7pm: “Officers have now reopened the A465 Eastbound towards Ebbw Vale following a road traffic collision earlier today.
